SUZIE KILBER, ACT
Addiction Counselor Trainee

I have always known that I wanted to help people as I have been helped in my own journey.  It took me some time to figure out exactly how I wanted to do that, but I found myself called to the counseling field, as my own experiences with counseling have saved my life more than once.  I am completing my clinical internship, the last portion of my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University.  Upon graduation, I will be working towards dual licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addiction Counselor in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

I have six years of professional experience working with children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, five years of professional experience working with pregnant and post-natal women, one year of professional experience working with children and adults in crisis, and two years of professional experience working with adolescents and adults with substance use and co-occurring disorders.

I have been professionally trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and motivational interviewing.  I also recently completed my Clinical Trauma Professional certification.  I am currently working towards becoming certified in Perinatal Mental Health, through my work with Postpartum Support International.

I believe that, rather than fixing all of life’s problems, my role as a counselor is to help clients live their best lives despite experiencing trials and hardships.  My goal is to come to each session with a warm, empathetic, non-judgmental approach.  Counseling sessions with me are more than just talk therapy, we will work together to develop coping skills and build your mental health “toolbox”.
