What is Grief Therapy?
Grief therapy provides a compassionate and steady space to understand and navigate the emotions that come with loss. Grief can follow the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, changes in health, or shifts in identity and life roles. Even when grief is expected, the impact can feel overwhelming, lonely, or disorienting. In therapy, individuals are supported in expressing their feelings at their own pace, exploring memories and meaning, and understanding how grief affects their thoughts, body, relationships, and daily routines. The process focuses on gentle emotional processing, grounding skills, and learning to acknowledge grief without being overtaken by it.

The goal of grief therapy is not to “get over” a loss, but to learn how to carry it with compassion and integration. This work often includes honoring what was meaningful, rebuilding a sense of identity, and slowly reconnecting with life in ways that feel authentic and supportive. Healing is unique to each person, and therapy creates space for that journey to unfold with respect and care. Grief therapy offers guidance toward stability, emotional relief, and the possibility of moving forward while still holding love, memory, and connection.
