What is Art Therapy?
Art Therapy is a non-threatening therapeutic approach for processing experiences, building resilience, and supporting emotional and behavioral growth using creative expression. Through drawing, painting, sculpting, and other forms of art, clients are able to externalize thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to express verbally. The therapist guides the process to help increase self-awareness, reduce distress, strengthen coping skills, and process experiences, thoughts, and emotions.
While art therapy is a popular modality for professional counselors to utilize with children and teens, clients of all ages can benefit from this approach. Ask your counselor how you can use art therapy in your treatment!"
